It was so epic...

Uhh, no it wasn't.
Every once and awhile there is a phrase that people really seem to latch on to, that makes my skin crawl when used in conversation. Apparently, epic has become that phrase. I HATE it. Drives me crazy. At first there were only a few people that I knew that used it, but now it seems to have gone off of the charts. I heard it on a commercial. The line was crossed, unacceptable.
Webster's says epic can mean the following:
1. of or pertaining to a long poetic commopsition, usu. centered upon a hero, in which a series of great achievements or events is narrated in elevated style: The Iliad is an epic poem. 2. resembling or suggesting such poetry: an epic novel. 3. heroic; majestic; impressively great. 4. of unusually great size or extent: a crime wave of epic proportions.-n. 5. an epic poem. 6. epic poetry. 7. a novel, film, etc., resembling or suggesting an epic. 8. something worthy of forming an epic.
So, I'm going out on limb by saying whatever product I heard being sold is NOT epic. I'm also going to stretch myself here and say that pretty much any story that you are telling me about your life is in fact, NOT epic. If you can turn it into a painfully long story that every 8th grader in America is forced to suffer through, then you can use it. If not, stop. Your life, and mine are not epic. Here are a few reasonable suggestions that all of my epic friends can give a go. These are free of charge.
1.spectacular
2. extrordinary
3. awesome
4. great
5. wonderful
6. incredible
7.amazing
Good luck and hopefully, this trend will soon come to an end.

Oh man, I totally agree with you! I find myself getting pissed every time I see that word used - especially in the case of "epic fail" which appears everywhere now. I felt similarly about when people began to write out their laughter as "Bahahahaha" instead of "Hahahaha." I mean, who starts out their laughing with the "b" sound?

I also never grabbed onto wicked or hella, though I never felt strongly anti-these, I just thought there were kind of stupid.

Agreed. In my mind epic fail=death. Then and only then should it possibly be used.
